Aburi Botanical Gardens & Adom waterfalls Tours

Aburi Botanical Gardens

Nestled on the misty Akuapem Ridge, Aburi Botanical Gardens was established in 1890 by British colonialists as a rest station and plant research hub. Spanning 64.8 hectares, it showcases over 160 tree species, from towering silk-cotton giants to orderly palm avenues and rare baobabs. Visitors wander labeled trails past a spice garden, orchid house, and the famous helicopter lawn once used by Ghanaian presidents. On clear days, the gardens offer sweeping views of the Accra plains below. A local guide brings the colonial and cocoa history to life.

Adom Waterfalls (Boti Falls)

Just 20 minutes from Aburi lies Boti village, home to the twin Adom (Boti) Waterfalls. The Upper Falls plunges 30 meters into a cool pool where swimming is permitted with life jackets, while the Lower Falls offers a gentler cascade ideal for picnics. A 250-step stone staircase leads down through lush forest, revealing nearby curiosities like Umbrella Rock and the Three-Headed Palm tree. A guide accompanies visitors. The falls are safest and most swimmable in the dry season (December–March).

Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm

In Mampong-Akuapem, the modest Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm marks the birthplace of Ghana’s cocoa industry. In 1879, Tetteh Quarshie returned from Fernando Po (Bioko) with cocoa seeds and planted them here, igniting a crop that would become the nation’s economic backbone. Some original trees, now over 140 years old, still bear fruit.
